Pittsburgh Steelers

Looking at the Pittsburgh Steelers, it is obvious their time with Ben Roethlisberger is dwindling, and given his injury history, maybe sooner rather than later. A second item is obvious: neither Duck Hodges nor Mason Rudolph can be leaned on fulltime should Roethlisberger go down with another injury.

Newman would fit the Pittsburgh offensive system well, and entering into a franchise that has a history of blocking out dysfunction would be great for his development. His arm is worlds better than that of Hodges or Rudolph, and giving him time to sit behind and learn from Roethlisberger would only help to benefit Newman.

Giving Newman weapons like Diontae Johnson, Anthony McFarland, Chase Claypool, James Washington, and potentiall Juju Smith-Schuster and Eric Ebron (should the Steelers re-sign them) would allow a bit more of a cushion and margin for error as well if he were forced into action earlier than planned.

In fact, his mobility may give the Steelers a wrinkle they have not seen since the early years of Roethlisberger’s career in Pittsburgh.
