2021 NFL Draft: 3 Team fits for Senior Bowl QB Jamie Newman
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers may be undefeated and legitimate contenders to lift the Lombardi Trophy, but Pittsburgh still lacks a long-term future at the quarterback position.
They have no immediate need to find a replacement for Ben Roethlisberger providing he stays healthy. However, that is a substantial caveat for a 38-year-old quarterback who missed almost all of last season, and eventually, the Steelers will need to invest in a young talent who fits the bill as his successor.
Newman compares well to the young Roethlisberger, with the arm to make all the throws and the bruising mobility as a runner to be a threat on scrambles and in short-yardage situations.

The 2020 season has provided significant evidence that Roethlisberger has enough in the tank to carry on for a few more seasons, meaning Newman would have ample time to develop and learn the nuances of playing the position at the highest level before being thrust into the starting role.
There are few better environments in the NFL for young players than that of Pittsburgh. The Steelers’ winning culture is one that Newman should be able to immediately buy into, while in Mike Tomlin he would be working under a head coach with a proven track record of getting the best out of his players.
After opting out of the 2020 campaign, Newman clearly has no problem with waiting for his opportunity. Pittsburgh is the ideal place for that patience to be rewarded.
