Round 4, Pick 128: Ronnie Perkins, EDGE Oklahoma

Bruce Irvin is a free agent this offseason and Seattle should start to look for a younger replacement for their other edge defender spot. While 2020 second-round pick Darrell Taylor and veteran Carlos Dunlap will likely take up that LEO spot, adding more talent to this defense is a must. In order to so, they double-dip on Sooners and select Ronnie Perkins out of Oklahoma.

Perkins seems like an ideal fit for the Seattle Seahawks’ defensive scheme, with experience both from a stand-up alignment and with his hand in the dirt. He has the speed to be an effective edge rusher and the ability to track down ball carriers in run defense. While he isn’t so polished in his run defense and being able to read blocking schemes, there’s a ton of potential there for the 21-year old.

If the Seahawks want to stay competitive defensively in the NFC West, especially after the addition of Matthew Stafford to the Rams, getting to the quarterback is going to be a necessity. The secondary struggled at times last season due to a lack of pass rush, with Jamal Adams eventually taking on more of a pass-rushing role and leading the team in sacks. If Perkins can help create a steady flow of pressure as a rotational player in his rookie season, the team can get a bit more creative in their defensive schemes to create pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
