What are the bad things about Davis Mills?

With a lack of playing time and some injuries, he has never played a full season of college ball in the four years he spent at Stanford. He struggles with deep ball accuracy and power, which limits what he can do at the next level. While he does have solid pro-day numbers, he seems to look out of place on bootlegs and out of the pocket, even if he has the ability to get out of the pocket.

Davis likes to hold onto the ball a little too long, either not trusting his arm to make the throw or is confused about what he is seeing from the defense. As of now, he’s a scheme-fit quarterback. The West Coast system looks like the only system he can thrive in at the moment, due to his struggles with the deep ball or on run-pass options. There is a lot of growing room, but if he had played much more in college we could be seeing him and Mac Jones compared closely as the style of play and fit at the next level.

His projection at the next level seems tied to his athletic ability and his size, if he can’t get his arm together though it won’t matter much. But, if he can continue his athletic upside and stay around the same weight, teams could be a little more patient. What will end up being a concern is if he ends up not progressing his arm and he’s just a mobile quarterback his options at the next level are quite limited as the NFL is getting more and more progressive each year offensively.
