Jaguars offseason thus far

For as much cap space as the Jaguars have, many thought they would have made a bigger splash in free agency. While they made a good amount of moves, most of them were to acquire depth players or rotational players, not starting-caliber players. There were two big moves they made, however. One on offense and one on defense.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Jaguars signed wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. after his contract expired with the Detroit Lions. Looking at the wide receiver core in Jacksonville, Jones fills a role. They have D.J. Chark who is their dynamic three-level threat with tremendous speed, Laviska Shenault is their gadget slot receiver who is special with the ball in his hands. Jones Jr. can come in and play the role that Collin Johnson played last year. Being a contested-catch receiver with veteran experience to help Johnson grow in his role.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Jaguars decided to get a starting cornerback to play opposite of former first-round pick C.J. Henderson. Signing Shaquill Griffin away from the Seahawks gives the Jaguars two starting cornerbacks that they can be confident in. This free-agent acquisition also gives the Jaguars some flexibility with their second first round pick in the mid-20s.
