NFL Draft: The Player, The Pick, The Fit

The 2014 NFL Draft is now over and fans are trying to determine what their teams got and how much it will help them in trying to win the Super Bowl.  When analyzing the draft, too often are people caught up in looking at the pick as one thing when it is not. It is important to look at the quality of the player the team is getting, the price they are paying to get him, the opportunity cost of players forgone and how the players they picked fit in on the team. Here, Ben Natan is breaking down every single pick in the draft for the player, the pick and the fit from the 2014 NFL Draft.

So you are not big on the jaguars Draft are you? You said more negative stuff then you did positive with the exception of Telvin Smith. Don’t matter how bad the team has been, this was a great Draft and I think you are completely wrong with your evaluation on those players

    • Ben Natan

I like it to a certain point. A lot of players have a lot of upside, but what they are now is somewhat of a worry. If the Jax coaching staff helps them hit their ceiling, then it is a good draft, but there is a long way to go for a lot of their players.

I like the Martin draft pick a lot. It was a smart move by Jones to pretty much finish off re-building the core of the Dallas offensive line. I like the Street pick a lot also. If he can eliminate the rookie errors, the Dallas receivers have the potential to be lethal behind this much improved line.

I want to see Lawrence square off against Smith a few times before I give him my blessing.

But what’s up with this Hitchens pick? Have the Dallas brain trust conceded, before the season even begins, that Lee won’t make the season without getting injured?

Lee, Carter, Claiborne and Carr all need to step up. Another season as the league’s worst defense is NOT an option!
