Chargers fans should be hyped about their new quarterback Justin Herbert

The Los Angeles Chargers just landed their quarterback of the future with Justin Herbert with the sixth overall pick in this year’s 2020 NFL Draft. With Phillip Rivers and the Chargers mutually deciding to go their own separate ways, the Chargers still had a quarterback on their roster in Tyrod Taylor.

Taylor is not the future of the Chargers, and he will do exactly what he did with the Cleveland Browns in 2018 with Baker Mayfield. Taylor will start week one until he gets hurt or until the Chargers’ offense inevitably gets too conservative and cannot put points on the board.

If you see Herbert in person, he just looks like an NFL quarterback. Herbert not only has the looks but he also possesses the NFL-style tools with his size, athleticism, arm talent, intelligence along with all of those traits the one that sticks out to you the most is that he has above-average accuracy.

More from With the First Pick

Herbert appeared in 43 games, out of those 43 games he started 42 of those games for the Oregon Ducks. Herbert had over 10,000 passing yards to be exact Herbert had 10,541 passing yards and 95 touchdowns to only 23 interceptions during his time at Oregon.

The game that Herbert shined in the most was actually his final game as a college player, the Rose Bowl. Herbert’s ability to use his legs that game is the reason why the Chargers took him sixth overall in year’s past draft.

With the entire NFL shifting gears to a more mobile quarterback approach, Herbert has the ability to use his legs to shred defenses. With the Chargers offense moving to an RPO and Spread scheme will really mold to Herbert’s strengths.

Let’s not forget Los Angeles found themselves a very talented quarterback in Herbert but maybe it is a blessing in disguise having Taylor start week one. The Chargers also have weapons on the offensive side of the ball that Herbert needs to get used to first before “throwing him” in a game Week 1. If the Chargers can get Herbert on track, you could see the Chargers make a legit run in the playoffs in the next few seasons.
