Joey Blount, Virginia

A relative sleeper at this point in the pre-draft process, University of Virginia safety Joey Blount is a world of fun when turning his tape on. Not only is he the peak of on-field aesthetic, he flashes on the defensive side of the ball for the Cavaliers in a variety of looks.

More from With the First Pick

Blount, in his first full season as a starter for the Cavaliers, absolutely stuffed the stat sheet across the board. Not only did he tally three interceptions and three passes defended in coverage, Blount was a force of nature when asked to come downhill full speed ahead. As a run defender and on the blitz, Blount recorded a massive 60 solo tackles, six and a half of which came behind the line of scrimmage, and added three and a half sacks.

At 6-1 and 190 pounds, Blount has good size and length for the safety position, and looks to carry his momentum into the 2020 season and the 2021 NFL Draft. Shockingly, not many have caught on to Blount at this point in the pre-draft process, but as the 2020 season rolls on, it would not be a surprise to see him rise throughout the year.

While Davis and Maye show a ton of versatility in coverage, the tackling piece is still lacking. Blount could step into the Big Apple amid the Jamal Adams trade rumors.
